As one of three lead ESL (English as Second Language) teachers, I develop and teach synchronous online courses to adult learners using the CANVAS LMS; develop curricula, conduct student placement and progress assessments; conduct training workshops for other instructors.

Developed and taught academic English (in-person) to international graduate and undergraduate students. My focus was on teaching oral communication and pronunciation. I used the Blackboard LMS to support my in-person teaching.

Taught academic ESL (in-person) to international students. While at Goodwin, I was awarded a teaching fellowship to investigate how the principles of Universal Design for Learning could be applied in the ESL classroom. I also piloted the use of the Blackboard LMS for our ESL department, developed Blackboard course shells for the other instructors, and trained them how to use Blackboard.

Taught Beginning and Mixed level English as a Second Language to diverse adult learners mainly recent immigrants and refugees. Helped develop a curriculum for teaching phonics to ESL students with poor literacy skills or whose native language did not use the Roman alphabet.

Managed a federally funded grant program and acquired additional external grant funding through the state. Represented the Institute on statewide water policy and planning committees. Developed and managed the information transfer program (web site development, seminar series, conferences). Conducted research related to environmental process simulation modeling. In 2012, I chose to leave my position to begin a second career in TESOL.
